Thai spirit house

This is one of the many “spirit houses” found on the corner of almost every piece of property in the Kingdom of Thailand. Sacrifices of fruit, food, and drink, will be given to the spirits of the area to stay in their good graces. Though Buddhism is a teaching and does not technically worship any God, every Buddhist country I can think of has mixed local, traditional religion/belief with the trappings of Buddhism on the outside. And spirit houses are a perfect example of that.

Since I had shared the “kiddy sketch” version of this spirit house, I thought I would also share this other clean version. Yes, if you look, this is a different photo than the previous, drawn-on photo, but the subject is one and the same. As I said, the last one was shot on black & white film, but this one was shot with my Nikon D100. I even mimicked the composition so I could more easily compare the two.

Quite honestly, I very much prefer this photo. The digital wins out over the film for me, because I do not have access to a darkroom and cannot work with my film at all. With digital, I have much more control over the photo than I could ever ask or imagine!
