Fallen Idols

fallen idol of a Thai goddess

How very telling. I was tromping around through the brush behind a factory and saw several idols lined up along the top edge of an old, run-down piece of equipment, mostly obscured by overhanging branches from a tree, which seemed to be reclaiming the area. I think it really is time to question the true value of the gods we serve if they do not even deserve to sit up straight.

Better yet, if we have to trim the trees around them, set them up with the wind and animals knock them over, what kind of gods are they? What power do they really have? And why in the world would we serve a little piece of wood or porcelain which needs us to help help it?

Great focus on this one! What you say about gods and idol is so true, and a great depiction of what you said!

I actually was going back to these same idols after shooting them a year or so ago. Last time, they were in much better shape. So, seeing the change, the scene brought up the thoughts of the temporary nature and breaking down of the things on this earth, and I took a photo that reflected that.
