What childhood is not complete without the ever awkward, but eternally fun wheelbarrow races? I caught this the other day in my brother’s neighborhood.
I thought it would be a great opportunity to experiment with some flash techniques. I was using rear sync flash with the built in flash on my Nikon D100. I did not want a black background, so I slowed down the shutter till I could get some color and light from the background.
At 1/4 of a second, though, that was going to mean a seriously blurred background. That is exactly what I wanted. I wanted the colorful, blurred background with a light flash to freeze the action of the subject. I still was not able to bring as much color as I wanted from the background, only what the street light would provide, but the effect it still fun.
